Special Fruit has further strengthened its shareholder structure through the entry of new investors. The group is now owned by the De Roeck, Maes, Remy and Reyniers families.
This partnership is aligned with the company’s ambition to accelerate its international growth and to further strengthen its position within the value chain. For Special Fruit, the transaction ensures continuity through the Maes family, while also bringing additional firepower through the new shareholders.
The entry of these families provides not only additional capital, but also complementary expertise and a strong network. This partnership enhances Special Fruit’s ability to capitalise on opportunities in an increasingly consolidating and integrated market, supporting the delivery of its growth ambitions.
VDP acted as exclusive advisor to the Maes family.
Special Fruit traces its origins back to 1951, when the Maes family established a local greengrocer’s shop in Antwerp, Belgium. From these beginnings, the company has grown into an international player focused on the import and distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Today, Special Fruit is a well-established supplier of berries, ready-to-eat avocados and mangoes, asparagus and exotic fruit, with a strong presence in the Benelux, Scandinavia and the Baltic states. Since 1990, the company has acted as a reliable value-added partner to European retailers, foodservice operators and wholesalers, distinguishing itself through deep product expertise, strong sourcing capabilities and a continuous focus on innovation.
The company benefits from a rich family heritage, with the second generation remaining actively involved in the further development of the business.
